Project Title: \ The Legacy Skills Pathway Initiative: Skilled Hands, Strong Future

Organization: \ Legacy Endeavors Inc.\ Oakland, California.

Executive Summary

Legacy Endeavors Inc. A 501(c)3 public charity, seeks \$50,000 to support The Legacy Skills Pathway Initiative: Skilled Hands, Strong Future, a vocational training program that equips underserved young adults (ages 18–25) that reside in the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Area, with practical trade skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general home repair. Over an 18-month training period, we aim to serve 10 individuals, preparing them for immediate employment or entrepreneurship. This initiative reduces barriers to sustainable income, builds self-sufficiency, and offers alternatives to crime and poverty. Funds will support student stipends, instructor pay, tools and equipment, and administrative operations. All donations are tax deductible.

Statement of Need

Youth in underserved Bay Area communities face systemic barriers to employment, education, and opportunity. Many lack access to career training or mentorship, leading to economic instability and an increased likelihood of engaging in at-risk behavior. The trades—plumbing, carpentry, electrical work—offer sustainable, in-demand careers that are often inaccessible to those without connections or formal instruction. Our program bridges that gap with hands-on training that creates real-world job readiness and long-term opportunity.

Program Description

Founded in 2022 by gospel minister and property management veteran Johnny Gatlin, Legacy Endeavors Inc. delivers hands-on job training rooted in both skill and purpose. The Legacy Skills Pathway Initiative is designed to transform the lives of marginalized young adults through trades-based education and mentorship.

Key features of the 18-month program include:

  • Trade training in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and other general maintenance skills.
  • Hands-on projects that reinforce classroom learning.
  • Workforce readiness coaching to support job placement or entrepreneurship.
  • Mentorship and support from industry-experienced instructors.

Goals and Objectives

  • Train 10 young adults (ages 18–25) in core trades within 18 months.
  • Provide each graduate with a \$1,000 completion stipend to support their career launch.
  • Achieving 80% post-graduation employment or trade-related job placement.
  • Reduce idle time and community crime risk through structured opportunity.

Measuring Success

  • Number of participants enrolled and graduated
  • Job placements and apprenticeships secured
  • Employer feedback on trainee performance
  • Follow-up surveys at 3- and 6-months post-program

Budget Overview (Total: \$50,000)

  • \$10,000 – Student completion stipends (\$1,000 per participant)
  • \$15,000 – Tools, equipment, and trade supplies
  • \$15,000 – Instructor salaries
  • \$10,000 – Administrative and program operating costs

Sustainability Plan

Legacy Endeavors Inc. plans to grow this program through strategic partnerships with local trade unions, businesses, and community development agencies. Long-term, we aim to establish a training facility that can serve more cohorts annually and diversify funding through grants, donations, and sponsorships. We will also pursue state and city workforce development funding as our outcomes data strengthens.

Conclusion

The Legacy Skills Pathway Initiative: Skilled Hands, Strong Future is more than job training—it’s a launchpad for new beginnings, safe communities, and empowered futures. Your investment will directly transform the lives of ten young adults and ripple across neighborhoods that deserve opportunity. Thank you so much for your time, we welcome your partnership.
